Biography:

Dr. David Mischoulon is the Director of Research and Alternative Remedy Studies at the Depression Clinical and Research Program of the Massachusetts General Hospital.  His areas of interest include complementary and alternative treatments for psychiatric disorders, and treatment of depression in minority populations.  In addition to being board-certified in adult psychiatry, he is a trained medical acupuncturist and is currently using and studying acupuncture as a treatment for depression.  Dr. Mischoulon has received research grants from the National Alliance for Research in Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD), the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  Much of his work has focused on the role of omega-3 fatty acids for the treatment of depression.  Dr. Mischoulon has authored or co-authored more than 100 original articles, review articles, and book chapters, and has also co-edited a textbook on natural medications for psychiatric disorders.  He has been an invited speakers at various sites around the country and internationally, and has won several awards.

Boston University School of Medicine, MD-PhD, 1987-1994; Internship in Preliminary Medicine at Carney Hospital, 1994-1995; Residency in Adult Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital, 1995-98; Training in Medical Acupuncture at Helms Medical Institute, 2004.
